Description

A portrait of the author's maternal grandfather, a hard-working Appalachian man of the Great Depression - a roofer, a carpenter, a fisherman.  He could not read but he asked his wife, Ava, to read him the paper every day so he would not be ignorant.  In the decade of the Depression, he move his family of 7 children 21 times, keeping them one step of the poverty and starvation that threatened from every side.
