A brief of some of the significant events in the stormy history of Cuba from 1899-1952, from the first US intervention in 1899 through and the exploitation that ensued, the founding of the Cuban Communist party in 1925, the student movement of the 1930's, the establishment of the "Central Workers of Cuba", the popular revolution of 1933, Cuba's involvement in WWII and, finally, Batista's ascent to power in 1952.
