Failed States: The Abuse of Power and the Assault on Democracy

The title does not refer to the individual states in the U.S., but rather to the 'state of things' the U.S. government reacts to.

Chomsky tells us 3 states we need to worry about are: nuclear war, environmental disaster, and the fact that the government of the world's leading power is acting in ways that increase the likelihood of these catastrophes.

He also argues there is a sharp division between public opinion and public policy. "The American system is in real trouble and is heading in a direction that spells doom for it's historic values of equality, liberty, and meaningful democracy".
