Description
With an introduction by Preston Love
This book is a memoir written by Johnny Otis, "the Godfather of Rhythm and Blues," about his life growing up in the LA neighborhood of Watts. The writing of the book was inspired by the violent Watts Riots of 1965 and not only chronicles Otis's own life as he worked towards becoming a well-known musician, but also bares witness to the struggles of an entire race of people struggling towards freedom and equality in a volatile society.
