Other People's Words: The Cycle of Low Literacy

The author worked in an Applachian town with a mother who had been through public school but was illiterate except for signing her name. Her son who had completed a year of school and a year at Head Start was already behind in reading.  She worked with thm as a teacher and researcher to understand the cultural and socioeonomic barriers to becoming literate.
