Description

In the 1930s, Lin Piao emerged as a brilliant guerrilla leader the campaigns against both Chiang Kai-shek;s Nationalists and the Japanese.  He soon became one of Mao's closest and most trusted advisors, eventually rising to the post of Defense Minister and being named Chairman Mao's political heir.

His deep involvement with the Cultural Revolution brought him in opposition with Premier Chou En-lai, and ultimately; to an unprecedented attempt on the life of Chairman Mao.
