Several million Americans became activists for political change in the 1960's, participating in 3 great social movements-the black freedom movement, the anti-war movement, and the new feminist movement. The author illuminates the connections between these 3 movements, accounts for their limits and failures, and examines their legacy in terms of personal and social change.
