In 1971 Nevada politicians cut welfare aid.  Welfare mothers from the Wstside district of Las Vegas mounted a campaign enlisting activists  and shut down the "Strip"   The women with the help of federal contracts rancommunity service programs, including a medical center, a library, senior housing, job training programs and daycare centers.
