Description

The video discusses the encroachment of christianity and euro-industrial pseudo-culture into Nitassinan, and the devastating effect these invasive ideologies are having on a proud, self-reliant indigenous culture that has lived there for over 10,000 years. Stark images of industrial rape of a pristine landscape punctuate the testimony presented in the video. The course of the video then focuses on Inco's violation of Voisey's Bay, which is sacred to both the Innu and Inuit as hunting and fishing territory, burial grounds, and religious sites. Poignant testimony from Innu Elders runs throughout the video, subtitled in English and spoken in the traditional Innu language. The cultural and economic destabilization of the Innu is discussed, as well as the Innu's efforts to appeal their concerns to both corporate and governmental agencies.
