Description

The second issue of take a stand begins with a small writing from the author, urging the readers to stand for what they believe in, in hopes that a better world will follow. The rest of the zine is full of writings from different contributors (Peter Nilges, Joe Wroblewski, and Jason Mulvihill-Kuntz) as well as an interview with Old Time Relijun. There are also small ads for different punk bands sprinkled throughout the pages. Each author varies substantially from the other, both in voice and in topic. One author includes a letter sent to their lover while they recount a story from their ongoing roadtrip. Another writes about animal cruelty by large-scale corporations and specifically discusses the convoluted June 1999 announcement from Procter & Gamble stating that it would partially end animal testing, encouraging readers to apply more pressure so that P&G submits entirely to the demands of animal rights advocacy groups. One author has several pieces in the zine, all of which are stories from their adulthood about the friendships they made and ways they enjoyed their time. And yet another author writes of US-influenced imperialism in Indonesia and asks readers to write to congress or join the East Timor Action Network. There is a wide umbrella of writing included in this open-submission zine, all of which are folks of all kinds simply writing about the things that matter to them.
