Immigrant Women in the Land of Dollars

The author tells the story of the Jewish and Italian women who came to inhabit New York's Lower East Side at the turn of the century - a period of massive migration.  Immigrant Women in the Land of Dollars looks at two generations -- mothers born in the old world, and daughters born in the new -- and makes extensive use of oral histories.  It purports to present a tale of individual and cultural metamorphosis through Americanization.
