Right to Fight, The: A History of African Americans in the Military

In 1770, runaway slave Crispus Attucks became the first casualty of the American Revolution when he was massacred by English soldiers on the streets of Boston.  Since that initial battle for liberty, African Americans have fought and died in defense of their country, enduring an uphill struggle against injustice to create a place in this nation's armed forces.  The Right to Fight is a story of struggle and triumph and a distinguished contribution to both military and African American history.
