The Colfax Massacre was the murder of more than 60 Black men in 1873 in a small town n Louisiana.  after various accounts of the facts the matter eventually ended up in the U.S. Supreme Court as U.S. v Cruikshank  which concluded that the 14th Amendment didn't apply to persons acting individually and the perpetrators were spared  conviction.
