Description

Lewis was a key figure in the US Labor movement in the 1930's, 40's, and 50's To some he was a champion of the oppressed worker but to others he was "the Antichrist of the American Dream".  The author argues that although Lewis was spoke eloquently for victimized miners and other industrial workers, his leadership of the UMW established patterns of nepotism and authoritarianism that served labor poorly in post-WWII America.
