Description
This book is an anthology of five scholarly essays about the causes of the Pueblo Revolt, which temporarily overthrew an eighty-two year old despotic rule of the Pueblo peoples in contemporary New Mexico by the Spanish. The sedentary lifestyle of the Pueblo peoples, as well as their cultural and linguistic differences between different groups made them easy for the Spanish to control and prior revolts were small and easily squashed by the Spanish. The Pueblo Revolt, however, was an coordinated effort between different Pueblo groups and easily overwhelmed the Spanish imperialists.
