A father of five and grandfather of eight, Joseph A. Califano, Jr., is founder and chairman of The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University. Mr. Califano held various United States government positions and served from 1977 to 1979 as U.S. Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare, where he launched the nation's anti-smoking campaign.
