Description

In this deeply personal documentary about music, mysticism, and family history, filmmaker Augusta Palmer goes in search of the father who abandoned her when she was an infant.  Robert Palmer (1945-1997) was one of America's preeminent music writers: he was the author of "Deep Blues," a pioneering writer for "Rolling Stone," and the first full-time rock critic for "The New York Times."  Augusta's journey takes her from Mississippi to Morocco, where she meets her father's favorite band: the Master Musicians of Jajouka, a 1000-year-old Sufi brotherhood who initiated her father into their ranks in 1973.  Through animation, archival, and contemporary images, the filmmaker examines her father's search for ecstasy and enlightenment.
